Homebrew developer Alex recently got around to add a new feature for the Apple iPhone homebrew game, PuzzleManiak. This bumps up the current build to version 0.99 and is available for download here at QJ.NET.
The latest version adds an option to hide the top and bottom nav bars to avoid any unwanted accidents while playing a puzzle (like pressing the “new” button by mistake). Simply double tap the nav bar to activate its hide function; double tapping on it again will reveal it as well.
While this may seem like just a minor feature compared to the previous releases, it certainly makes things more convenient while playing the game. Anyway, you can download PuzzleManiak v0.99 through the link we’ve provided below. Enjoy!

It didn’t take very long for developer Intelliborn to update the iPhone homebrew interface application IntelliScreen. The current build bumps itself up to version 0.93 with a new Alerts option added to the mix of features.
The Alerts option informs you of any missed SMS, calls, new mail that you may have missed. You can also choose to set the Alert Interval, which indicates how often you want to be alerted. Finally, there’s even a Quiet Time mode, which turns off all alerts during a certain time of day.
Anyway, here’s a list of all the new changes included since our previous coverage of IntelliScreen:
- Added Alerts option
- Fixed non-English Gmail bug
- Weather icon for storms now show appropriate icon (storms instead of sun)
- Added a few install improvements
IntelliScreen v0.93 may be downloaded through the ModMyiFone repository (modmyifone.com/installer.xml) through Installer.app. In any case, we hope you enjoy this latest download.

Developer DreamCatcher pushes the limit of your iPhone’s video capturing capabilities as a new version to the Apple iPhone homebrew app, iPhone Video Recorder, has once again popped up. Version 1.2.4 includes extended functionality with your YouTube account, as well as some fixes to help improve its performance.
The new build no longer requires you to sign in to your Google account just to upload videos to YouTube. Logging into your standard YouTube account can now allow you to directly transfer your videos there. Please note that you still need to buy the retail version of this homebrew app if you want to record videos longer than 30 seconds.
Anyway, here’s the complete list of new changes implemented since our previous coverage of iPhone Video Recorder:
- Upload video to YouTube by standard YouTube account
- Better stability
- Bugs fixed
The developer mentioned that the app will continue to get updates as the iPhone firmware upgrades. There were also plans drawn out to prepare iPhone Video Recorder for listing in the AppStore. Registered users will still be entitled to permanent free upgrades should this ever push through.

It seems that rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated and over the last year, the UMPC has morphed from a tablet-like device to an extremely compact notebook, complete with a keyboard, albeit a very tight one.

On this week’s EIC squared podcast we’re a bit rushed as Dan’s plane is about to take off–without him. Nevertheless, we go through the D6 coverage of the week, Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang’s body language and Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer golfing.
I briefly talk about the week in security–Apple patches and the Comcast hack. And then […]

This is an interesting story sent to us by one of our viewers. It is about a gentleman (David) who ordered a refurbished iPhone through AT&T and received a bag…yep, that’s it, nothing but the bag. The only reason this concerns me is because I know a few of you bought refurbished iPhone’s from AT&T during the last sale. Below is a just snippit from David’s blog.
I am a developer for Pegasus News. My team has been working on an application for the iPhone and was in need of hardware for testing, so when my brother mentioned that AT&T had refurbished iPhones on their site, I jumped on the deal knowing that stock at all local Apple stores was nonexistent. I place my order, everything goes through just fine, I’m a happy customer. I try to pull up my order status on AT&T’s site and get an error message telling that it might take 24 hours for information to be available in their system. This seems like a common enough requirement, so I wait patiently.
ONE WEEK AND FOUR BLOG POSTS LATER…
My wife calls to tell me she found the DHL delivery, but it’s not a box. It’s a shipping envelope. She asks if she should open it. I tell her please do.
“It’s just a bag.”
“It’s a what?”
“It’s a bag. It’s an empty plastic bag.”
“Well, um, er, is there anything else in the package at all? A note or anything?”
“There’s a shipping label. But this is just a bag like you’d get if you bought something in their store.”
(pause)
(sigh)
“I’ll call AT&T again.”
Read the entire blog entry HERE.
I am curious to know if anyone else is having this problem.

iPhone owners may soon find themselves scrambling to find an open window- not a power outlet- to charge their cell phones in the future. Apple has filed a patent for a surprising new technology- the implementation of solar cells underneath the iPhone’s touchscreen. In the past, photovoltaic cells have been bulky and ugly, and required a direct line of sight with their source of energy. However, this new technology would benefit from the glass shield on the iPhone, as well as its fairly large screen size. If Apple manages to pull this one off- and we sure hope they do- the iPhone will truly become the world’s most potable device.

While Windows-based iPhone users continue to experience a bevy of Outlook-related sync issues, Mac users have received a heavy dose of relief in the form of Mac OS X 10.5.3, which resolves persistent problems involving iPhone-to-iCal and vice versa synchronization.
Previous problems included issues with forward slashes “/” in contact names, the iPhone calendar not showing all iCal events or iCal not showing events entered on the iPhone and more.
Several users have now reported that Mac OS X 10.5.3, released yesterday, resolves this issue.
Apple Discussions poster Peter Jones, for instance, wrote:
“Just dropping a note to say that after upgrading to 10.5.3 my calendars seem to be syncing with my iPhone again. I tested in both directions. Before 10.5.3 calendars weren’t being sycned, no matter what I did. I tried every tip in this forum and nothing worked. The changes in 10.5.3 make me very happy. ”

In a very brief press release, 3 has announced that they will be bringing the iPhone to Hong Kong and Macau, two markets where as of now, the iPhone is not officially available. Of all the countries and territories that 3 has coverage in, Hong Kong and Macau are the only ones that 3 has been rewarded a contract to carry and sell the iPhone in.

“Hong Kong and Macau, 29th May 2008 - Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited today announced that it has signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Hong Kong and Macau later this year.” -Press Release
That is the whole press release. So there is quite a lack of details at the moment, but it has been assumed by some that this is the 3G iPhone. This would make sense, as there are 3G networks in both locations, and why bring the original iPhone “later this year”, when there will already be an upgrade that makes the device old news.

Run don’t walk to read Jim Louderback’s account of how Revision3 was taken down by MediaDefender, a subsidiary of penny stock ArtistDirect.
