Updated Google Reader Mobile for iPhone
November 8, 2007Google has just rolled out some new features for Google Reader Mobile with some additional changes especially for iPhone and iPod Touch users which should make the user experience even better. In case you have not noticed the new features you can find out all the details after the jump.
Some of the features rolled out today courtesy Google Reader Blog are as mentioned below:
- User Interface has been changed to make it easier to navigate and select often-used links.
- Navigational buttons have been moved to the top of the page.
- Option to disable reformatting linked web sites for mobile phones.
- Ability to see trends data on which feeds are viewed on mobile.
- You can now change the number of feed items displayed.
Moving Navigation buttons such as All Items, Feeds and Tags to the top of the page is a clever tweak in the user interface as if you have been using the iPhone or iPod Touch for sometime now or have been reading the iPhone Tips & Tricks here ayou would know that you can easily move to the top of the page in iPhone’s Safari browser by simply tapping on the status bar.
The option of disabling reformatting link websites for mobile phones is another nice feature as iPhone and iPod Touch are capable of displaying websites as-is thanks to its Safari browser.
If you are interested in checking out the trends data on which feeds you view most on your mobile, go to Trends section in Google Reader on your computer’s browser, then click on “Read on mobile” Tab next to the “Emailed” Tab as can be seen in screenshot below.
All these features have been the result of the now famous “20-percent time that Google offers its Engineers so that they’re free to work on what they’re really passionate about” which was very well spent by Dolapo Falola, one of Google’s Engineers. Isn’t that great? Thanks Dolapo.
If Google Reader Mobile is not one of your Top iPhone Applications, it will be great to know which iPhone Apps you like and use the most in the comments (do remember this does not include Apps that Apple already provides on the iPhone).
If you have not already used Google Reader Mobile on your iPhone, then I would strongly recommend that you check it out by pointing your iPhone’s or iPod Touch’s Safari browser to http://www.google.com/reader/m
