Yahoo: Icahn just a short-termer

Yahoo once again delivered another shareholder letter Thursday designed to urge shareholders to vote for its board members at its Aug. 1 annual meeting. Yahoo’s message: Billionaire investor Carl Icahn only has short-term interest n the company.
In Yahoo Chairman’s Roy Bostock’s letter the company outlined the following:

How To Save An Image From The Safari Browser of 3G iPhone

Another quick iPhone 2.0 tip, but one that is a great new feature in the latest iPhone software - how to save an image from a web page in the Safari browser.

I was very happy when I heard this feature would be coming to the 2.0 software, and it’s nice to see it made it, works well, and already proves useful to me quite often.

And it’s dead easy - all you need to do is tap and hold on an image on a Safari page, and wait for the popup shown in the above screencap to appear. Then just tap ‘Save Image’ - and that’s it, the image file will be added to your Camera Roll.

iPhone 3G costs $173 to build, giving Apple an estimated 55-percent profit margin

some information regarding how much the new iPhone 3G really cost Apple. Based on their calculation, Apple seems to be making roughly fifty fuve percent profit margin. While iSuppli did not count into research and development cost, the number is quite interesting.

Stripping off the new iPhone 3G for component lists and price them individually, iSuppli determined that a 8GB iPhone 3G costs $173.33 to build. AT&T is rumored to be paying Apple $300 subsidy on each iPhone 3G sales, that put the iPhone 3G total prices to $499 for the 8GB version and translate to the fifty five percent margin stated above.

“iSuppli believes Apple aimed for a more cost-effective design for the 3G iPhone compared to the 2G, in order to lower the retail price - which will allow the company to seed adoption and to capture maximum market share now - while the company still has buzz and a perceived differentiation relative to its competitors.”

If this number hold any truth, Apple’s one million iPhone 3G sold during the weekend should put its quarterly earning higher than before.

iPhone 2.0 supports playback of WAV voicemail

If you’ve been aggravated at your iPhone or iPod touch in the past for its inability to play back WAV voicemail files from home phone services like Vonage or AT&T (synergy foul! yellow card), you may now breathe easier. TJ Luoma was 95% through building a rather elaborate script to convert incoming WAV voicemails to MP3 for iPhone playback (and, while he was at it, add some reverse lookup magic) when he discovered that the 2.0 firmware now includes the ability to play back the particular flavor of WAV file used in these voicemails. Problem solved.

PC shipments solid in second quarter; Apple No. 3 in U.S.

The iphone-dev team releases info on new iPhone 3G jailbreaking tool

With the release of the new iPhone 3G nearly a week ago, the iphone-dev team has been keeping on top of things with the upcoming release of their new jailbreaking tool for the Apple gadget.

Since the iPhone 3G’s release last July 11, the team has been integrating the hardware they’ve received from first hand sources and have already reported some success in their initial tests. Those of you wondering what seems to be taking the team so long is the fact that they want to make sure that the soon to be released PwnageTool will be absolutely bug-free and will pose no risk to your iPhone.

When you think about it, six days isn’t considered that long in this type of technology age. In addition, the iphone-dev team has always been consistent with its previous jailbreak releases with the past firmware updates. We guess this means we just have to sit tight and see what new goodies they have in store once the new software is finally rolled out.

As a final word from the dev team, they assured everyone that the much awaited jailbreak is nearly done. To give you an idea just how soon PwnageTool will be released, here’s a short quote taken from their blog: “We are almost there. Those bugs are being swatted. Please fasten your seat-belts”.

iPhone 3G now jailbroken

It looks like the iPhone-dev team has been hard at work finding ways to make the iPhone more accessible. They’ve just posted a video showing off the world’s first jailbroken iPhone 3G.

According to the iPhone-dev team, the video below shows off “the world s first jailbroken iPhone 3G running our own software (emphasis theirs).” A release of the jailbreaking software hasn’t been made yet, but the team assures readers of their blog that they are “working very hard,” presumably at perfecting the process.
